Health Practitioner Clinic at Flagstone State School
Helping students access the health care they need
Starting from 24 October 2024, students at Flagstone State School will be able to see a free Health Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner) clinic at school.
Our school's clinic will be staffed by Nurse Practitioner Mrs Sruthy Raju, a General Nurse Practitioner. They will be joining us from Top Health Doctors Beenleigh.
What services will the Health Practitioner be providing?
The school Health Practitioner will provide the majority of services that students would be able to access at a community-based healthcare clinic. Only students enrolled at Flagstone State School will be able to access our school's clinic.
How can I make an appointment with the Health Practitioner?
Our school's Health Practitioner clinic will be open every Thursday during school terms between 8:45am and 2:30pm. Appointments will be available during class times, as well as limited break times.
Appointments to see the school Health Practitioner can be made either on the School Stream App, links from the School Webpage and Facebook Page or by sending an email to TopHealthDoctors@flagstonss.eq.edu.au .
Appointments for primary school students will be made for the parent/carer and their child to attend together.
How much will it cost for my child to see the Health Practitioner at school?
All visits with the school Health Practitioner are free for students and their families. The Health Practitioner will bulk-bill all appointments through Medicare, so it is important that you and your child bring your Medicare card or number with you to their appointment.
Where will my child's medical records be kept?
The medical records will belong to the Health Practitioner (in the case of sole operators) or the Health Practitioner's base clinic Top Health Doctors Beenleigh where they will be securely stored. The school will not be able to access your child's medical records.
What if my child already has a Health Practitioner?
If your child already has a Health Practitioner but would like to see the Health Practitioner at school, your child's medical records can be transferred. This is what happens in Health Practitioner clinics in the community. This sharing of records is important and encouraged so that all health providers your child sees have up-to-date information.
Can I come to the appointment with my child?
Yes, parent/carer involvement is expected and encouraged. We recognise that parents and carers can be an important source of support and information for young people in managing their health and wellbeing.
Can the HP refer (send) my child to other health services if needed?
Yes. In most instances, the HP will encourage your child to include you in these referrals. The focus for the health practitioner in the HPPS is to identify health concerns that impact the students learning at school and to facilitate direct referrals to medical specialists and a range of allied health professionals when required.
What if we are not eligible for a Medicare card?
The intention of providing a Health Practitioner clinic at Flagstone State School is to provide students with free visits to a Health Practitioner, to make it easier for students to access the healthcare they need.
