The positions of office at Flagstone State School are the pinnacle of student leadership in the school. As well as representing the student body, the students represent the whole school, its values, its good name and honour. The students are leaders, independent and reliable. They are able to inspire others; they enjoy the confidence and respect of students and teachers.
Students interested in becoming school leaders will need to submit an application form to the school Principal.
To be eligible for the position of leadership applicants must be able to demonstrate and sustain:

A set criteria sheet is set home in term 4 for year 5 students. In order to assist in the leadership process, students are invited to attend the leadership program run by the senior school deputy.
Students are nominated at the end of the school year and present speeches to the school body on parade. Staff and students, from year 3 - year 6 vote on the student's presentations.
Role description
School Captain & Vice Captain
- Represent the student body
- Assist in Assembly organisation & speaking
- Facilitate fundraising activities
- Attend National Leaders conference
- Meeting with school administration
- Attend Student Council meetings – making decisions
- Support each other & work as a leadership team
Band Captains
- Assist in organising Instrumental music events
- Speak at assembly events
- Demonstrate commitment to practice
House Captains
- Promote sports activities in the school and encourage participation by all
- Demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship qualities
- Help organise sporting events such as the athletics carnival and interschool sport
- Organise war cry cheer leading to encourage team spirit

- Assist Playground leaders
- Raise funds for nominated charities
Student Council Representatives
- Buddy to new students – induction
- Liaise with classes to find out needs and wants
- Attend Student Council meetings – making decisions

School Captain and School Vice-Captain
The Captains and Vice-Captains will be elected by staff and students (Years 1 – 5) in weeks 8 & 9 term 4. There a total of 4 positions available.
Students interested in being elected as Captain or Vice-Captain are required to complete a four stage process. Students must complete each stage to be eligible for the role.
Stage 1 Leadership program completed
Stage 2 Application form completed and signed by stakeholders
Stage 3 Application reviewed and invitation to interview with Principal and Deputy (week 8)
Stage 4 Speech prepared and delivered to assembled students and staff (week 9) Voting results counted.
All applicants, successful and unsuccessful will be notified in person with the results being announced at the assembly on last week of term.
House Captain
Students interested in being elected as House Captain are required to complete a four stage process.
Students must complete each stage to be eligible for the role.
Stage 1 Leadership program completed
Stage 2 Application form completed and signed by stakeholders
Stage 3 Application reviewed by HPE teacher and Deputy and invitation to prepare speech
Stage 4 Speech prepared and delivered to assembled students and staff in house group
All applicants, successful and unsuccessful will be notified in person with the results being announced at the graduation assembly on last week of term.
Band Captain
The Band Captains are unique roles that require a personal vocation and commitment from students in music. To support this role these positions will be determined by the Instrumental Music Teacher in consultation with the Principal.
Stage 1 Leadership program completed
Stage 2 Completion of application form and signed by stakeholders
Stage 3 Application reviewed by Instrumental Music Teacher and Deputy
Stage 4 Invitation to interview with Instrumental Music Teacher and Deputy
This position is announced at the Leaders’ Assembly in next year.
Student Council Representative

Students from Years 3 and 4 (current year) nominate for position with class teacher in next calendar year
Stage 2 Completion of application form and signed by stakeholders
Stage 3 One representative elected from year 6 to represent junior classes

These positions will be determined by the Principal in consultation with the Deputy Principal.
