- playing instruments
In the early years students explore the fundamental elements of music as they develop a love of music through song and an appreciation of basic rhythmic patterns in simple time. As they progress through the years of their primary music education they learn to read music and have the opportunity to learn the recorder. The emphasis in the upper school is on exploration and experimentation using simple and compound time.
Instrumental Music Program
Instrumental music is a program of excellence for selected students in years 4, 5, 6 and 7. This program of rigorous instruction is offered for students by experienced music teachers. Students are offered a choice of instrument, however, please note that costs vary according to choice. They may learn to play a string, brass, woodwind or percussion instrument. All instrumental music students have the opportunity to belong to performing ensembles thereby enhancing their ability to develop aural skills and to enjoy ensemble playing. The members of the music ensemble provide music for our school parade on a weekly basis. The music program presents the opportunity for every child to understand the contribution music makes in one's life.
